I also did my assignment on this videocast. I thought you brought up a great critical thinking question when you asked which interactive board teachers should implement. It's true that there are many options, each one offering different features and capabilities. Some examples include the Smart Board, Eno Board, or Promethean Board. Last year my school decided to adopt the Eno Board and installed it in several classrooms. We then attended a seminar on it. Its main benefits include its affordability, easy installation, lack of cords, and its ability to double as a whiteboard (it can handle dry erase board markers). It also uses an electronic pen called a stylus to control the screen. While most interactive boards require you to use your hand, the Eno Board claims that the stylus is more accurate.
Are there other major differences between interactive boards that others know about?
I think that the major differences of the interactive boards would be the softwares and accessories that come with them. Some have more programs that are geared to specific subjects than others.
We also use Eno Boards at our school. Teachers have found them to be very useful. However, i think for some it has been overwhelming because our training was very quick and rushed before the beginning of school. We had to get all our boards through parent donations. We are still short some and are constantly looking at new ways to bring in money so that all classes can participate in using these tools. I know there is a lot of "money" that can be claimed out there through small grants etc.. but it is also difficult to find the time to apply for those. Both you and Christie had some great points of how these boards can be beneficial. There is so much that can be done with them that can open up the opportunities for learning even more.
Hello, great discussion here. I agree that the boards are a fantastic tool that can create a very dynamic and interactive classroom, however teachers need to be trained, confident and able to utilize the board and resources available. At our campus we have a SmartBoard and it is my goal to have students teachers using these tools prior to beginning their teaching career.
